The Wheatsheaf Inn Access Statement
1. Introduction
This statement describes the facilities and procedures employed at
The Wheatsheaf Inn.
2. Accessibility to The Wheatsheaf Inn.
The main building includes the lounge, bar, restaurant, function room and first floor guest accommodation.
We have a large car park surfaced with tarmac and space for approximately 20 cars. Additional parking is often used by customers at the entrance to the sports ground which is opposite the pub and to the left of the vicarage.
There are 2 entrances and exits to the pub. The front door (measurement approx. 80cm width – 194cm height) is on the main road level and is always open during opening hours. The front door leads into a small porch and has a second door (measurement approx. 76cm width – 187 height) leading directly into the lounge area with the main bar straight in front, (approx 140 cm from the door).
The rear door has a downward slope leading to it from the car park and is our only wheelchair access. It has a slight sill of about 8cm at the foot of the door. This leads into a porch which has a second door leading into the function room. Also in this porch are our only disabled access toilets which are on the right when facing into the premises. They have a third door which slides open to the left. These 3 doors all measure approx 83cm width x 203cm height. The toilet is on the right with hand basin in front.
Please note there is no wheelchair access between the upper restaurant/function room level and the lower lounge/bar area of the premises.
3. Accessibility within main building.
The Wheatsheaf is and old building with lots of little nooks and crannies. It is set on different levels and has many stairways or steps. The front of the lounge and bar are both at ground level. The lounge descends a step of 20cm before ascending again with 2 x 15cm steps revealing the gents toilets to the left. There is a staircase (5 steps with handrails) at this level and to the right, leading to the restaurant (a set of ladies toilets is on the left at the top of the stairs) which is on the same level as the function room and rear entrance/exit.
Entrance to the bar is via the front door. Enter 4/5 paces right into the bar. With the door to the beer garden on the right, there is a 19cm step up to a level with 3 tables and chairs either side before another 2x 18cm step up to the pool table. Here through a door is another set of toilets. Ladies are on the left and gents on the right and in front is a small staircase (5 steps with handrail) up to the function room.
4. Accommodation Guest rooms.
We have four guest rooms on the first floor. All are en-suite with shower, hand basin and toilet. Access is by staircase at the rear of the building. This leads to a corridor with all rooms on the right. The first two are 3 paces from the top of the stairs while the other two are at the end of the corridor. We do not have wheelchair access to the rooms. Currently we do not have handrails in any of the bathrooms. As standard we have a kettle, clock radio and free view digital TV. A refreshment tray is provided in each bedroom. Each bed is provided with a continental duvet. If required, sheets and blankets could be provided instead.
5. Things to do/see
Silver Birch Golf Course is just around the corner on the road to Dolwen. It is a beautiful 18 hole course overlooking the village and surrounding valleys to the sea. £18 per round.
Snowdonia is 20 minutes away and easily accessible from The Wheatsheaf via main routes and some less well known roads offering breath taking scenery along the way.
The fantastic beaches of North Wales are a short distance. Closest being only 10 minutes such as Abergele, Llandullas, Rhos on Sea, Colwyn Bay, Penrhyn Bay and Llandudno.
Bodelwyddan Castle and Conwy Castle are also only 20 minutes away.
We have many brochures on things to see and do in the region so don’t hesitate to ask for any assistance.
A return local bus service connects the village to Colwyn Bay once a day.
